68% of businesses with 50-249 employees struggle to find the right resources (expertise and people) to effectively communicate their health and wellbeing strategy*.
So how can SMEs give their strategy context and purpose to help employees better understand its meaning instead of trying to communicate a collection of sometimes quite disparate wellbeing-related items and activities?
In this episode we look once again at wellbeing through an internal communication lens, focusing in on how SMEs can get more joined up and effective in their wellbeing thinking, so that value for both people and business can be realised.

28% of businesses with 10-250 employees are planning to redesign their wellbeing strategy to align with new ways of working in the next 12 months*.
So where should they start when it comes to creating a wellbeing strategy that fits with office, home and hybrid workers?
In this episode we focus on the one thing that businesses could start to change today – the one thing that could arguably have the biggest impact – and that’s the leadership role in building employee trust including the behaviours and communication style needed. Trust has a pivotal role to play, because when it comes to wellbeing – as with most things in life, trust trumps tokenism. Hands down.

93% of businesses with 10-250 employees say that providing employees with social wellbeing is one of the most important aspects of health and wellbeing. But only 36% and 42% respectively think they do it very well*.
So how can SMEs go about creating the foundations of social wellbeing?
In this episode, we look at why and how storytelling – when it’s woven into the fabric of an organisation – can help lay the foundations for a culture of social wellbeing. We look at what social wellbeing is, how it is interrelated with emotional and physical wellbeing, and why it should represent part of the foundations of a wellbeing culture in all organisations. After all, people don’t connect with the rational. They connect with the relatable.

Welcome to Better Wellbeing, the podcast series that looks at how good communication can help SME businesses build better wellbeing.
The six episodes in this series are designed to help small and medium sized businesses look at employee communication in a way that creates the conditions for a culture of wellbeing – and all the business benefits that come with that.
Hosted by internal communications expert Suzanne Clarkson, Founder and Managing Director of Coach House Communication; the packed – yet practical – series is aimed at SME business owners, HR professionals and financial advisers who support SMEs.
The series starts with three Communication Clinic episodes where Suzanne uses a statistic from our 2022 SME Workplace Wellbeing barometer survey to set the scene for an interesting dive into three different wellbeing topics.
In the subsequent three Communication Swopshop episodes, Suzanne interviews two SME business owners and the Co-Founder of the charity Minds@Work. Each interview looks at employee communication and wellbeing in action: what’s working; what isn’t; and what could be.
